Adult Braces san Jose/Silicon Valley

Adult Braces-Havard Orthodontist San Jose/ Silicon Valley

San Jose orthodontist by Top Best *8* San Jose Dentists Specialists Centers – Jonathan H. Kim, DDS, Inc. offers braces (also called orthodontic appliances) can be as inconspicuous-or as noticeable-as you like. Brackets-the part of the braces that attach to each tooth-are smaller and can sometimes be attached to the back of the tooth, making the brackets less noticeable.

Brackets may be made of metal, ceramic, plastic or a combination of these materials. Some brackets are clear or tooth-colored. There are brackets shaped like hearts and footballs, and elastics (orthodontic rubber bands) in school colors or holiday hues such as red, white and blue. And there are gold-plated braces and glow-in-the-dark retainers.

Malocclusions often become noticeable between the ages of 6 and 12, as the child’s permanent (adult) teeth erupt. Orthodontic treatment often begins between ages 8 and 14. Treatment that begins while a child is growing helps produce optimal results. As a result, children should have an orthodontic evaluation no later than age 7. By then, they have a mix of primary (baby) teeth and their permanent (adult) teeth. Your child’s dentist can spot problems with emerging teeth and jaw growth early on, while the primary teeth are present. That’s why regular dental examinations are important.

Children aren’t the only ones who can benefit from San Jose orthodontist by Top Best *8* San Jose Dentists Specialists Centers – Jonathan H. Kim, DDS, Inc. If you’re an adult, it’s not too late to correct problems such as crooked or crowded teeth, overbites, underbites, incorrect jaw position, or jaw-joint disorders. The biological process involved in moving teeth is the same at any age. Usually, adult treatment takes a little longer than a child’s treatment. Because an adult’s facial bones are no longer growing, certain corrections may not be accomplished with braces alone. No matter your age, it’s never too late to improve your dental health and beautify your smile with San Jose/ Silicon Valley Havard orthodontist.

Children with braces should brush their teeth after every meal. It is recommended that children hold the toothbrush at a 45 degree angle and brush along the gum line. Brushing often and properly, in addition to dental cleanings every six months from San Jose orthodontists at Top Best *8* San Jose Dentists Specialists Centers – Jonathan H. Kim, DDS, Inc., is an important way to reduce the risk of cavities and gingivitis (bleeding of swollen gums).

Children should also floss at least once a day. San Jose orthodontics by Top Best *8* San Jose Dentists Specialists Centers – Jonathan H. Kim, DDS, Inc. recommends the use of floss threaders in conjunction with standard floss or super floss to help floss under and between brackets and wires.

On the day your child has his or her braces put on, detailed instructions will be given on brushing, flossing and diet.

Orthodontic appliances from San Jose orthodontics by Top Best *8* San Jose Dentists Specialists Centers – Jonathan H. Kim, DDS, Inc. must be in place and intact at all times for the treatment to work properly. If your child’s bands, brackets or wires break, please contact our office for an appointment as soon as possible. If your child’s wires break and your child is experiencing some discomfort, we recommend that you use wax to cover the sharp end of the wire.

During treatment your child may wear elastic bands to aid in tooth movement. If your child runs out of elastics or misplaces them, please contact our department and we will be happy to mail more elastics to you. Please remember that children need to wear their elastics at all times.

What To Do When Your Tooth is Knocked Out–San Jose 24 /7 Emergency Children’s Dentist

What To Do When Your Tooth is Knocked Out?

If a permanent tooth is knocked out, you have a dental emergency situation that requires an immediate attention of a dentist. When this episode happens, you must keep the tooth moist until you reach our office because the team of doctors at Jonathan H. Kim, D.D.S., Inc. – Top Best *8* San Jose Dentists Specialists Centers may re-implant a tooth as long as it’s not completely dried out. The longer a knocked out tooth is left out of its socket, the more likely will be the failure of trying to reestablish the tooth. These knocked out teeth can often be re-implanted if it is replanted within minutes after the accident occurred and there is a greater chance the tooth will be retained for life. After the accident, the tooth should be handled by the crown or enamel portion not by the roots. If the tooth is dirty or contaminated, it should be rinsed with milk or water very gently. Do not use soap or any abrasive substance to clean the tooth. Submerge the tooth in milk and come to our office, Jonathan H. Kim, D.D.S., Inc. – Top Best *8* San Jose Dentists Specialists Centers, will try to save the tooth.

It should be noted that if a primary (baby) tooth is knocked out, it should NEVER be attempted to be replanted as this could damage the permanent tooth bud in formation. Parents should NOT try to place the baby tooth back into the socket, and should immediately seek an advice and treatment of their dentist. First Aid:

Try to place the tooth in the socket. Bite down gently on gauze to help keep in place.
If the tooth cannot be replaced in the socket, place it in a container and cover with a small amount of whole milk or saliva.
Apply a cold compress to the mouth and gums for pain
Apply direct pressure, using gauze to control bleeding
Do NOT handle the roots of the tooth. Handle by the crown portion only.
Do NOT scrape the root of the tooth to remove dirt.
Do NOT brush or clean the tooth with alcohol or peroxide.

Unique Considerations
Dental care offered by San Jose senior dental care dentist at Top Best *8* San Jose Dentists Specialists Centers – Jonathan H. Kim, DDS, Inc. for seniors involves unique considerations. Seniors are more likely to suffer from a host of oral health issues resulting from the natural aging process, their inability to receive proper oral health care due to financial constraints (no dental insurance) or their inability to provide adequate dental hygiene care for themselves.

These factors, combined with the limited dental benefits provided by state aid programs for the aged, blind or disabled, leave many seniors at risk of ignoring tooth decay and tooth infection until there is no alternative but tooth extraction – which is the only dental procedure covered by many state aid programs such as Medicaid or Medicare which is offered by San Jose dental care service dentist at Top Best *8* San Jose Dentists Specialists Centers – Jonathan H. Kim, DDS, Inc.

When a patient is missing some or all of the teeth on the jaw, traditionally these patients have had to use dentures either full or partial.

With regards the patient who has lost all of his teeth, stability and retention of the denture may hamper the patient from enjoying eating, speaking. This may also create fear when socializing that the denture may slip and cause embarrassment. Dental implants may be placed to aid in retaining the denture and provide a more stable base allowing the patient to eat, speak and socialize as if they had all of their own teeth. Additionally, those patients who would need to wear a partial denture to replace a few missing teeth may have retention issues due to the placement of the remaining natural teeth or their shape can benefit from implant retained Overdentures.

For this type of overdentures, typically, 4 or 6 single implants can be used to support and secure an upper overdenture, while 2 or 4 implants will be utilized to secure a lower denture. Commonly, use of 4 or 6 implant on the upper jaw, will allow removal of the palate portion of the denture, which offers a more comfortable feel for the patient, and allows more taste sensation.

Benefits of an implant overdenture include:

1. Stable fit. No more loose dentures that cause embarrassment and lack of confidence
2. Elimination of adhesives and creams used with regular dentures.
3. Ability to speak more clearly and confidently.
4. Provides greater strength for better chewing ability.
5. Helps preserve bone by reducing bone deterioration.
